It can be very difficult for people to assess and figure out how to set personal development goals and re-launch their lives in the best possible way. We tend to focus on a couple of areas in our lives that we are not content with.

There is a strong correlation between personal development goals, self motivation and achievement. In order to get properly motivated and to achieve, it helps to spend some time with yourself and to think about your personal development goals and what you want to do to achieve in your life.

We all have an inbuilt desire to achieve our goals but achieving goals is a demanding task as there are certain things involved. Therefore, in order to set personal goals, go with the SMART formula.

Be Specific

When setting specific goals, make sure you are specific. Take some time to clearly define your goals and sub goals and the more detail oriented you are, the better you will be able to achieve them.

Goals Should Be Measurable

Whenever you set a goal, make sure the goals are measurable to see how well you are progressing. You have to be able to see how well you are progressing in order to reach your goals well. It is also important to know what the metrics of your progress are.

Attainable

Do not set impossible goals- make sure the goals you set are attainable- whether it is a goal or a sub-goal, it should be attainable. The bigger the goal, the more impossible it might become to achieve it but then again, you can split them down to simple sub goals to find that every step is attainable.

Relevant

All your goals should be relevant. Make your goals relevant. Whether they are goals or sub goals, make sure they are all relevant. Try not to set the goals that do not ultimately help you achieve your personal development goals.

Timed

Make sure that the goals are set to a specific time limit or there are deadlines for every goal and sub goal. If you can set and stick to the realistic deadlines then you will have too much too avoid. You have to keep yourself motivated whenever you are setting personal goals.

There are also certain things that you should keep in mind when you are setting personal goals. These include:

Stick To One Goal

When it comes to setting personal development goals, stick to one big goal. If you do not have any idea regarding where to start, pick a goal in the following areas: health, wealth, happiness or relationships.

Break Down How You Will Get There

After you have assessed what personal goal you want to achieve, it is time to take the next step. This is probably where most of the people will fall off from the bandwagon. How are you planning to make the goal a reality? You have to set concrete steps to get to your destination. You can fly from point A to B to get to the point. The same idea applies to goal setting.

Many people want to set a goal but don’t know how to go about setting it. You need to have clarity regarding what goal you want to achieve and then have the steps outlines. Start with every goal in mind and break down each goal to reach your step.

Write It Down

Rather than thinking about your goals, go towards achieving them by writing everything down about them. You need to write down your commitments and tell your brain that you are serious about this particular endeavor by making it think it is attainable and that it is more of an investment. Once we have invested in something as humans, we hate to lose our investments and we will try our level best to keep them. Therefore, once you write your goals, you will have a lot of clarity regarding how to get to them.

From my personal experience, it is better to write the goals on a paper or on a white board. Write them down and then take the next step of achieving them. Wishful thinking is no good if you are setting your goals therefore if you are serious about setting personal development goals, it is also important to write them down so you have a good idea about how to achieve them.

Make It Stick

Once you have finalized everything, the next step is to make everything stick. All you have to do is to stick to the game plan. This is however, a big hurdle for most people as they end up quitting on achieving their goals. The big key is to remind yourself of the goal that you want to achieve. Yes! You have to remind yourself of the goals that you want to achieve.

This is the process that you want to keep up because it gives you the momentum to keep up with your goal. Motivation is a limited resource but it can become fabricated to help you stay on the right path. You have to remind yourself every day as this will help in improving the process. You also have to make it inevitable so you have to keep reminding every day that the goal is intact and that you can do this by setting up your own environment.

Thus, the three things that can help you stick are:

Setup Motivation Pages

Look at these pages every day- it is good to look at them in the morning.

Surround Yourself With The Right People

You should also surround yourself with the right people to stick and align your goals right. The closest people will have a major impact on your productivity. Make sure that they are conducive to you.

Create Your Own Ecosystem

Create your own ecosystem that is fully in line with your goals. Your environment should stick and the people in there should help you in sticking to your goals.

Setting up your personal development goals is easy if you have a clear idea about what you want. Once you have a clear idea about that, you can move to the next step of achieving them.
